I'm summarizing 2012 with a word: transition.
And like any transition, there were moments of brutality, heartache, triumph, relief, gratitude, enduring friendship, clarity, and grit.
Some of the year's highlights:
January: I kissed my brother goodbye and sent him off to the Navy.
February: I said goodbye to my lifelong companion and our family dog, Zeb.
March: I finished writing a book.
April: I brought Tuck (a 9-month old German shepherd) into my family.
May: I vacationed in Kentucky.
June: I traveled to Virginia.
July: I started running.
August: I ran my first 5K.
September: I ran another 5K.
October: I vacationed in Kentucky again.
November: I started my own business.
When I peak into 2013, I can't wait. That book I mentioned? It'll be published. That business I started? It's my dream coming true, and I've dreamed big. Is there a proper way to introduce a dream that's taking shape? I'm not sure, but here it is: VoiceBox Media.
A friend told me, "I know what your slogan should be: Live, dream, VoiceBox. Because that's what you're doing. You're living and you're dreaming VoiceBox." She's right. This is a special time for me because VoiceBox Media has been in the making for a long time, conceived in the heart of an awkward teenager to now - a real life endeavor with the support of many of you. My goal as a journalist has always been to change the world, and VoiceBox Media is a tool to do just that.
And we're starting with our first international trip in February! I'm going to Kenya with marathon runner Wesley Korir to write about his Kenyan Kids Foundation. I'd be humbled if you considered joining the 10 x 130 campaign, which will help fund this trip.
If you lose track of me in 2013, look for me in an airport, at a 5K, a library, coffee shop, a small body of water, or my home office. Find me on Facebook, email, Twitter, my blog, website. And if, after all that, you still can't find me, find my dogs. Because where they are is likely where I am.
Cheers to the year that's behind us but not forgotten. And double the cheers for the year ahead.
