We can buy anything we want online, from cheap bedroom furniture to diapers. Most stores have online shopping options, which is nice because I live in a small town that doesn't have a Target, Babies R Us or Old Navy.
But it hasn't always been this way.
While walking through Murray State's campus with a friend last week, I reminisced about how I didn't have a computer of my own in 1997, the year I got my first email address, which came with my parents' tuition payments to my higher education institution. This memory came to mind when I walked by the building that had a convenient computer lab between my dorm and the journalism building. Then I thought about how much has changed in 13 years.
My husband and I just started enjoying the convenience of movies being delivered to our mailbox and Wii. Plus Facebook, Twitter and blogs make the world seem smaller than it did when we weren't all so well connected. And I really love my iPhone.
And thanks to technology, you could win you a $65 gift certificate to use at one of CSN Stores' more than 200 online stores, which allow you to shop from home for anything from practical cookware to cheap bedroom furniture to entertaining toys.
So how does technology affect your life? Answer that for me in the comments section and you'll be entered in a random drawing to win that $65 gift certificate to CSN Stores I mentioned earlier.
For additional entries, follow me on Twitter [one entry] and Tweet about my giveaway [one entry for each daily Tweet]. Leave links below if you do these things.
The contest is open to anyone in the United States or Canada, as those are the countries to which CSN Stores ships their products, all this week. Also, for entries to be valid, I need to have your email address so I can tell my friend at CSN where to email the gift certificate. I will draw a winner Sunday, Sept. 26.
Where would I be without all my gadgets? I left my iPhone at my sisters house over Thanksgiving and drove an hour and a half back at the end of the day just to go it. It might not be safe in the mail and I would have been without it for days! I use it to manage my home business from my day job and I'm addicted to games at night. Without my computer I would be that girl still typing on my electronic typewriter, I wore out the erase option constantly. Thankfully, facebook has helped me stay in contact with friends from HS and college too:)

How has technology effected my life? Well, it pays the mortgage. :)
ReplyDeleteIf it weren't for technology, neither myself nor my husband would have a job! I work in the cell phone industry, and ten years ago my job didn't even exsist! For that fact, neither did my husband's, who is a member of Best Buy's "Geek Sqaud." I am so thankful for the security of our industries in such a rough economic time. Oh, and even thought this is where the paragraph should end, I must also praise Facebook, which keeps me so connected with friends all over the country!
ReplyDeleteTelling my age, but I have pictures to prove that I was one of the lucky kids in the 50s who had a box screen black and white TV with the rabbit ears on top. Now I would think my life was ending if I didn't have a DVR to tape and play back my favorite shows. How times have changed. The world of technology is a blessing that brings the world closer together and makes our lives much easier.
ReplyDeleteIt effects me in many wonderful ways but it also confuses me. I know I must be getting old because I can't keep up with everything that is coming out and how to use them. However,I am thankful for technology every day.

I feel like it is my life line on some days. Right now, it would effect John's current degree choice. Um, computer programming. Facebook allows me the opportunity to keep in touch with my family who is scattered all over the globe. I am able to share my stories and photos via my blog and the resources it has provided regarding the Cystic Fibrosis Community are priceless. Without the advances of technology, knowing how it has improved my life, I would be lost.
ReplyDeleteMy husband works in tech support, so it pays our bills:) I don't know what I'd do without beingg able to look things up online and order things and check fb! I'm not into all the other gadgets and cell phones though, so as long as I have a computer with working internet, I'm good!
ReplyDeleteTechnology distracts me and sometimes, if I'm not careful, distances me from the people I'm with in the present. I've committed to not letting technology come between me and the face-to-face relationships I have with people while at the same time being eternally thankful that technology keeps me connected deeply to those I love the most. Like you.
ReplyDeleteToday I am especially thankful for technology because without it I would not have freezer cooked today. No, my phone is not capable of browning beef, but through facebook and this blog I learned about it and it has now an obsession. That is just a small reason I love technology...that and when I think, "I wonder what happened to so and so," most of the time I can go online and find out.
ReplyDeleteIt pays my bills and frustrates me daily.

Technology keeps me connected to family and friends even when they are far away.

I love all the ways that I can communicate with people (through FB, texting, etc) that normally we wouldn't be able to due to distance, time, etc. I love, love, love being able to shop online...without having to haul kids to the store...compare prices easily, etc...and then it comes right to my door!! Love my DVR that I can record my favorite shows and fast forward through commercials. But at the same time I have to be careful and not let the computer or phone take away from my daily tasks and face-to-face relationships...so with everything there must be a balance!
ReplyDeleteIf you give a mom technology she might be able to work from home (by logging into the office). Because she works from home she can homeschool her children. If she homeschools her children then she will use technology to search for ideas and connect with other homeschoolers. While connecting with other homeschoolers she will also connect with other family members that she doesn't see often enough. So, if you give a mom technology it might just affect every aspect of her life.
ReplyDeleteFor me technology = pictures, pictures, and more pictures. The life of my family is ultra-documented. I'm almost obsessive about it. If I don't capture it as an image or video I'm afraid I will forget it happened.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I would not have learned to love taking pictures if I had been required to develop the film myself, or wait for a lab to do it. I know that sounds lazy, and it kind of is, but there the convenience and cost factor are huge and can't be beat.
I enter blog giveaways and do review/giveaways on my blog to help with gifts, etc... I also sell on craigslist. Without technology I would not be able to help my husband out with finances!

Technology has affected every aspect of my life. I turn on the computer to e-mail or "facebook" someone now instead of mailing someone a letter. I can shop on line 24/7-maybe not such a good thing :) Technology can also be very frustrating especially when it doesn't work properly!
