another giveaway
for this season

Thanks to Courtney for the action shot of my girl, on the left, and
her girl cooling off on one of the many hot afternoons this summer.

Even though I don't sense any relief from the hot, humid days, summer does seem to be winding down in some ways. For instance, I added the five Murray State football home games to my calendar and made note of a corn maze at a local church that I want my family to wander through this fall. I was telling my daughter about cooler days [you know, like 80 degrees!] to come when we can use the new picnic basket [complete with kid-friendly dinnerware!] that I bought her at a yard sale yesterday. And probably the most notable change that indicates summer is ending or, rather, perhaps, at least changing, is my calendar that indicates my 3-year-old daughter will start "school" in a week.

If you were to ask me what my favorite season is, I would say, with no hesitation, summer. But then I'd follow that up with how much I like the transitions that are fall and spring. I like the leaves changing colors, all the fall activities and the way cool evenings follow warm days. And I like the anticipation of summer that comes with spring and the way new life abounds in some way or another.

So, no, I won't be sad when the thermometer reads only double digits and when the first number is a couple smaller than the recent constants. I will be OK putting away my tank tops for another year and layering some clothes to accommodate the strange Kentucky seasons.

Until then, I have a trip to the nearby water park planned this week with a friend and her kids and will likely continue sweating when I'm not really exerting much energy.

In celebration of an enjoyable summer and memories that go beyond just being hot, I'm happy to have the opportunity to give away another $60 gift certificate from CSN Stores, which has more than 200 online stores that sell everything from dinnerware for those tasty kabobs from the grill to holiday decorations for any season.

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment telling me which season is your favorite and why. Be sure to include an e-mail address so the winner can be properly notified. Blogging or tweeting about this giveaway are each worth another contest entry. Just leave the link to your mention of my giveaway in the comments section. [This contest is open to U.S. and Canada residents because that's where CSN Stores ships its goodies.]

You have until Aug. 16 to enter. That afternoon the contest will close and I'll hear what my 3-year-old girl has to say about her first day of pre-school.

  1. Fall is my absolute favorite season! I love the cool crisp weather that still has a warm sun shining down. I love the orange, red, and yellow scattered all over the ground. I love hay rides. I love the pumpkin patch. I love high school football games. I love my oldest son that was born during the fall. I love the smell of corn being shelled in the fields all around my house. I love the excitement in my children's eyes as they see all the farm equiptment busy in the fields-and my husband's for that matter. I love the Thanksgiving holiday and its symbol of togetherness. I love fall!

  2. I too would have to say my favorite season is FALL! I love the colors of fall most and it always seems to come just when I've enough of the summer heat. My only wish is that it lasted a wee bit longer!

  3. Definitely fall is my favorite season in TN because we get a relief from triple-digit temperatures, the leaves turn, and college sports begin again! Although, March is my favorite month (duh)so spring definitely runs a close second!

  4. Spring is my favorite season. Maybe it's because I don't like cold weather and I can feel warmer and longer days ahead with springtime. It's when Mother Earth seems to awaken signaling a new beginning with flowers erupting with their bright colors and tantalizing aromas. People seem to scurry about with new-found energy and raise their eyes to God to give thanks for bringing them through the darkness of winter into the light of spring once again. It's a busy time, but a very happy time as people get out and enjoy nature and children play in the sunshine.

  5. I love Fall.
For one I am not a big fan of sweating and the fall has the crisp air and the change of the leaves and it is perfect to exercise out in and the football games are going on.

  6. Looks like fall is the runaway winner, and I can't disagree. The weather's cool enough to start cooking chili and stews, but warm enough to break out the grill here and there. Football's in full swing, and pre-season basketball's poking it's head out. Oh, and I get to celebrate another year with my beautiful wife. Does earning brownie points from her get me a second entry?

  7. Yeah, apparently many people love fall or it seems like the best option now ... when we're all sweating constantly. :) I can't argue though with all the great things about fall. Chili. College football. Leaves. Jackets. Corn. Hayrides.

And, nice try, Dustin. Maybe you can buy her a gift if you win the gift certificate. :)

  8. When I was in school summer was my favorite season, because I loved how hot it was and there were tons of activites and best of all, NO SCHOOL!

In the past few years though my preference has changed. Fall is my favorite season. I love the cool crisp weather when I can wear fun layers, I love bonfires, and I love all the fun activities we have in our family. And of course it's soccer time again!

  9. Spring is my favorite season! I love that it is getting warmer (HATE the cold!), but still comfortable out. Plus, watching trees and flowers bloom is exciting to me; what will come, what will it look like, etc. There's just something about newness that greatly appeals to me.

  10. It is a tough decision for me. I love Spring and Fall. I would be content to have our only seasons be spring and fall. Although, I would like a few days of summer for swimming and a few days of winter for the snow to maybe help to balance it out! Haha!

I love the flowers and the green blooming in the Spring. It reminds me of God's majesty. I love the cooler temperatures, the leaves changing, pumpkins, fall flowers and long sleeve t-shirts in the fall.

I guess to pick an overall favorite...I have to go with Fall.

  11. Having been involved in education as either a student or a teacher for at least 30 years (more if you count pre-school), I particularly enjoy spring -- everything from beginning to enjoy some daylight each day outside of school hours to the anticipation of the end of the school year and the beginning of summer. I also enjoy all of the regular non-school aspects of spring as well -- warmer weather after winter, open windows, the budding and leafing and flowering of plants, gentle spring breezes and showers, etc.

I can't leave out fall, though; I really think it probably is my favorite. I love the crisp air, the gradually (well, not so gradually in Kentucky many times) cooling temperatures, the freshness of a new season, the colors, and Thanksgiving, to name a few things.

  12. Fall! Because it's cooler and the leaves are changing colors.

Do you have my email address? (BIG smile!)

  13. Well, I have to go against the majority and say my favorite season is summer. Love the fun stuff you can do in the summer...swimming, 4 wheeler rides, fun times with family, vacation, fresh fruit and vegetables, celebrating my daughter's birthday, grilling, mini road trips...love the extended daylight hours.
